What is Superannuation Administration( SUPERADMIN)?
Superannuation administration refers to the day-to-day management and operation of superannuation (super) funds in Australia. It ensures that contributions are correctly processed, member records are maintained, compliance obligations are met, and benefits are paid accurately and on time.
Super administration can be handled internally (by the super fund itself) or outsourced to specialised third-party superannuation administrators.
Key Functions of Superannuation Administration
Contribution Processing
Collecting and allocating employer and personal contributions.
Automated processing of contributions and payments.
Member portals and apps for account access and transactions.
Data feeds from employers, banks, insurers, and investment platforms.
Cybersecurity systems to protect personal and financial data.
When a Superannuation Administrator Does Not Need a Licence:
Super admin providers (e.g. Mercer, Link Group, Australian Administration Services) who only perform administrative tasks — such as:
Processing contributions
Managing member records
Administering benefit payments
Producing member statements and reports
Operating call centres (with factual information only)
Managing insurance claims on behalf of the fund
— do not require an AFS licence, because these activities are considered administrative services, not “financial services” under the Corporations Act 2001.
